Workspace
Workspace
The workspace is where you read and edit your documents and notes. Every open document has its own tab, and the tools float in capsules at the bottom.
Layout #
The tabs of your open documents run along the top. Below them is the canvas: all pages of a document sit one below the other on a grey surface, each labelled “Page 1”, “Page 2” and so on. The selected page has a coloured frame.
In the bar at the very top you’ll find “Page overview” and the “Open Document…” menu on the left, and “Share” for export and printing, search and “More” on the right. When you open a document from “Files”, from search or from a task, Nexnor switches here automatically.
The tool capsules float at the bottom. They disappear while you draw or while the on-screen keyboard is showing.
- “Undo” and “Redo” – take back changes, see Saving and undo.
- “Edit Text” and “Insert” – change the text of a PDF (Editing PDFs) and add text boxes, images, shapes, tables or pages (Inserting).
- “Highlight”, “Comment” and “Draw” – mark up text, add comments and write by hand (Markup and drawing).
- “Format” – the format panel for selected objects.
Tabs #
Every open document gets a tab. Tap a tab to switch to it. The name of the active tab is shown in colour and opens the document menu.
To change the order, hold a tab and drag it to a new position; a vertical bar shows where it will land. Touching and holding a tab opens the tab menu (see below).
How to
- Tap + in the tab bar.
- Choose “Open from Nexnor…” for a document from your library, or “Open Document…” for a file from the Files app (see External documents).
- Tap the document. “Search Documents” helps you find it faster; documents that are already open are marked “Already Open”.
- “Rename” – the tab name turns into a text field; confirm with Return.
- “Save As…” and “Export as PDF” – see Exporting.
- “Save Again” – appears only if saving failed.
- “Close Tab” – closes the tab. You can also use the small X in the tab. Nexnor saves all changes first; there is no confirmation.
Shown on iPad – it looks similar on your device.
Split View #
In Split View two columns sit side by side, each with its own tabs. For example, you can read a PDF on the left and take notes on the right.
The column you last touched is active: it has a coloured bar below its tabs and “Active” in the status line. Only the active column shows the tool capsules. Your first touch in the other column makes it active and takes effect at the same time.
Drag the divider between the columns to change their width. The next time you turn on Split View, it starts in the middle again.
How to
- Tap the “Split View” icon on the right of the tab bar.
- In the right column, open a second document with “Open from Nexnor…” or “Open Document…”, or drag a tab over from the left column.
- To finish, tap “End Split View” in the right tab bar.
- Move a tab to the other column – drag it across, or choose “Move to Right Pane” or “Move to Left Pane” in the tab menu.
- Open a document straight on the right – choose “Open on Right in Split View” in the tab menu or the document menu.
Saving and undo #
Nexnor saves every change automatically after a moment, and also when you close the tab, leave the app, export or print. “Save” in the document menu commits any open input straight away.
Nexnor shows the save status as “All changes saved” or “Saving…”. If saving fails, “Not saved – try again” appears in orange and the tab gets an orange dot. Tap the message, or choose “Save Again” in the tab menu.
“Undo” and “Redo” in the left tool capsule step back or forward through up to 40 changes. Nexnor combines quick typing into a single step. The history belongs to the open document and starts afresh when you open it again. Changes that Nexnor writes directly into the PDF file can be undone too: edited PDF text, re-flowed paragraphs, moved, replaced or removed PDF images, and markings (highlight, underline, strike out).
