Text Documents
Text documents are Markdown or TXT files in your Nexnor library. You write in the source, read the formatted preview and link text passages and checkboxes to tasks.
Create a text document #
Text documents appear in Files under “Text documents” and open as a tab in the workspace.
How to
- In Files, tap “Create or import” › “New Text Document”. Alternatively: folder icon at the top left › “New Text Document”.
- Enter a “Name” and choose “Markdown” or “TXT” under “File Format”.
- Under “Folders”, choose the folder (“On My Nexnor” is the top level) and turn on tags if you like.
- Tap “Create”. The empty document opens.
- Nexnor saves every change automatically. The bottom of the document then shows “Automatically Saved Locally”.

Source and preview #
Markdown documents have two views, which you switch at the top of the document: “Source” shows the text with all Markdown characters, “Preview” shows it formatted with headings, lists, quotes, code, tables, links and images. A Markdown document opens in the preview.
You write in “Source”. In the preview you select and format text, check off checkboxes and edit images. Wide tables scroll sideways.
TXT documents have a single view; the top shows “Plain Text”.

Formatting #
In the “Source” view of a Markdown document, the formatting bar sits below the header. Each button adds the matching Markdown characters around the selection or at the start of the line. Bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code and heading remove the characters again on a second tap.
In the preview you format using the selection menu: select text and choose “Format” (bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code, links), “Paragraph style (whole paragraph)”, “List style (whole list / paragraph)” or “Quote style (whole text block)”. In tables you also get “Align table column”, “Insert table row”, “Insert table column”, “Delete entire table row”, “Delete entire table column” and “Edit table cell”. Empty cells have a “Fill cell” button. The hints for this are in the collapsed “Editing Tables” group in the preview.
- “Insert Image…”, see Images
- “Toggle bold”, “Toggle italic”, “Toggle strikethrough”, “Toggle inline code”
- “Insert Link”: the selection becomes the link text and the address is selected so you can type over it.
- “Heading” with levels 1 to 6; the preview shows each level in its own size
- “Bulleted List”, “Numbered List”, “Checklist”, “Quote”, “Code Block”
- “Insert Table” (three columns) and “Divider”

Checkboxes #
Checklist lines appear as checkboxes in the preview. Tap a checkbox to check it off or reopen it; Nexnor changes the character in the text and saves right away. To add new checkboxes, use “Checklist” in “Source”.
You can link a checkbox to a Nexnor task. The checkbox and the task then keep their status in step: when you complete the task in the task list, the checkbox is checked too, and the other way round.
How to
- In the preview, touch and hold the checkbox.
- Choose “Link to a task”.
- Choose the task list under “List” and tap “Save”.
- A linked checkbox shows a link icon next to it. Its menu offers “Show task” and “Unlink · keep task”. Nexnor asks before unlinking; the checkbox and the task are kept but are no longer checked off together.

Images #
Images are available in Markdown documents.
How to
- In “Source”, place the cursor where you want the image.
- Tap “Insert Image…” in the formatting bar.
- Choose “From Photos” or “From Files”, then tap “Save”.
- In the preview each image has a “…” button at the top right; touch and hold opens the same menu: “Replace Image…”, “Edit Alternative Text” and “Remove from Document”. The alternative text appears as a caption below the image.
- Nexnor only loads images from the internet after you allow it: “Text Tools” › “Allow Web Images”. This permission applies to this document on this device. “Refresh Web Images” loads them again.
Tasks from text #
Select text in “Source”, in a TXT document or in the preview and choose “New Task” in the selection menu. The task editor opens with the selected text as the title. The passage gets an orange background and stays linked to the task. “New Task” is also in the “Text Tools” menu. This works like tasks on a PDF page: the task sits on top of the text, and the text itself stays unchanged. You don't need a checkbox for it.
If the window is wide enough, tasks appear as cards at the right edge, with a line to the passage. The circle on the card completes the task, the title opens it, and the “…” menu offers “Edit Task” and switching between “Completed” and “Open”. In narrow windows an orange circle at the right edge marks the passage; tap it to open the task.
If the text changes so that the passage is no longer unique, “Text location no longer unique” appears. Select the new passage in “Source” and tap “Relink selection”.

Tools, search and export #
The slider icon at the top right opens “Text Tools”. Many of these commands are also in the tab menu, which opens when you tap the name of the active tab.
- “Undo” and “Redo”
- “Find in Document”: shows the search bar and switches to the source. The counter shows the matches, “Previous Match” and “Next Match” move back and on (Return also moves on), “Done” closes the search.
- “New Task” and, under “Selected Passage”, “Highlight”, “Comment” and “Add Bookmark”. You find all passages under “Markings & Bookmarks” via the bookmark icon in the header.
- “Export text file”: first shows what the file contains. Use “Choose destination” to pick where it goes. Image files, tasks, markings and bookmarks are not part of the text file.
- “Rename” and “Print…” (Markdown prints formatted)
- “Images” (Markdown only): permissions for web images
