Tasks in Documents

Create tasks right at a text passage or at any spot on a page. Each task appears as a card in the page margin and stays linked to its spot.

Task from selected text #

Select text and choose the task entry in the selection menu. The task editor opens with the selected text as the title. Once saved, the task is linked to the text passage.

  • PDF text: select › “Create task”.
  • Scanned text (after text recognition): select › “Attach to-do”.
  • Text in a text box: select › “Create task”.
  • “Highlight” tool: with text selected › “Create task”.
  • Document menu (tap the name of the active tab): “Task”, “Convert selection to task” (text in a text box) or “Attach to-do” (PDF and scanned text).
Note“Convert selection to task” and “Attach to-do” are only available in the document menu while text is selected.

Task at any spot #

A task doesn’t have to belong to text. You can place it anywhere on a page, for example in the margin, next to a figure or on an empty area.

How to

  1. Touch and hold an empty spot on the page.
  2. Choose “Create task” in the menu.
  3. Fill in the task in the editor and save it.
  • Without a text selection you can also choose document menu › “Task” or “Highlight” › “Create task”, then tap the spot on a page.
NoteAfter “Task”, “Tap where the task should go” appears at the top; the next tap on a page places the task. To cancel, tap “Cancel” in the hint or choose “Task” again. Touch and hold doesn’t work while drawing or while a highlighter pen is active.
TipIf you touch and hold text, Nexnor selects the text. For a free spot, press on white space or the page margin.

Task cards #

Every task in a document appears as a card in the free column to the right of the page, level with its spot. If that space is taken, the card moves down. An orange line connects card and spot: text passages have a light orange background, free spots show a white circle with an orange outline.

  • Circle on the left: completes the task or reopens it. While subtasks are open, the checkmark is locked and Nexnor shows “Complete all subtasks first.”
  • Title or date: opens the task in the editor.
  • “2 of 3 completed” row: expands and collapses the subtasks. You can check off each subtask individually.
  • Move: touch and hold the card until it jiggles, then drag it.
  • “Task markers” in the document menu: shows small markers for open tasks at the right edge of each page, with a count when several are close together. Tap a marker to open the task. The switch applies to all documents.
NoteYou can’t delete the card using “Format”. To remove a task, choose “Delete Task” in the task list or the task details (see Task context menu); the card disappears with it.

Change, remove or jump to the spot #

The “…” menu at the top right of the card manages the link between task and spot. In the app, the spot is called the “anchor”.

  • “Jump to anchor”: shows the linked spot in the document.
  • “Change anchor”: “Pick a new anchor: tap a spot or select text” appears at the top. Tap a new spot, or select text and choose “Create task”. The card and the task stay as they are. “Cancel” ends this mode.
  • “Remove anchor”: removes the link without asking. The card stays on the workspace as a free to-do and the line disappears.
  • “Edit Task”: opens the task editor.
TipWhen you open a task from the task list or from search, Nexnor shows the document right at the task’s spot.
