Notes and pages

Notes are made of pages with the paper of your choice; PDFs consist of their PDF pages. In both you can add, reorder, rotate and delete pages – and keep working freely around them.

Device

Create a new note #

A new note starts with one empty page. In the page setup you choose what this page looks like; the preview shows the result right away.

A new note starts with “Edit Text” turned on: tap an empty spot on the page and start writing.

How to

  1. Open “Files” and tap + (“Create or import”).
  2. Choose “New Note”.
  3. Choose format, orientation and paper (see below).
  4. Tap “Create”. The note opens in the workspace.
  • “Format” – A3, A4, A5, A6, US Letter or US Legal, plus “Portrait” or “Landscape” under “Orientation”.
  • “Paper” – “Blank”, “Lined”, “Grid” or “Dot Grid”.
  • “Templates” – pre-printed pages: “To-Do List”, “Music Staff”, “Week Planner” or “Day Planner”.
  • “Spacing” – “Narrow”, “Medium” or “Wide”; appears for lines, grid, dots, the to-do list and music staff.
NoteWithout Nexnor Pro you can create up to 10 documents, see Nexnor Pro.
TipNexnor remembers your last choice and suggests it next time. You can also change the default under “More” › “Settings” › “Default Template”, see Settings. With a keyboard, ⌘⇧N creates a new note.

Sidebar #

The sidebar shows every page of the document as a thumbnail. The page in view has a coloured outline, and the sidebar scrolls along as you move through the document. Tap a thumbnail to jump to that page.

To change the order, drag a thumbnail onto another one. The page’s text boxes, images and handwriting move with it.

How to

  1. Tap “Page overview” in the top-left corner.
  2. Add new pages with + at the top of the sidebar (“Blank page after” or “Blank page before”) or with “New Page After Page …” at the very bottom.
  3. To close it, tap “Close Sidebar” or “Page overview” again.
NoteA new page opens the page setup, with the format and paper of the neighbouring page already selected.

Managing pages #

Touch and hold a thumbnail in the sidebar to open a menu with “New Page Before”, “New Page After”, “Change Paper…” (not for PDF pages), “Rotate 90°”, “Delete” and “Manage Pages…”.

“Manage Pages…” shows all pages at a larger size. Tap pages to select them, or tap “Select All”; drag to change the order. The actions for the selected pages are at the bottom:

  • “Duplicate” – inserts a copy after each selected page, with all objects and handwriting.
  • “Rotate 90°” – rotates the pages; objects rotate with them.
  • “Extract / Share” – creates a PDF of just the selected pages and opens the share sheet. No new document is added to Nexnor.
  • “Delete” – deletes the pages and everything on them. Nexnor asks first (“Delete Pages?”).
NoteRotated PDF pages can no longer be marked up with the markup pen or changed with “Edit Text”.
TipYou can reverse page changes with “Undo” – including deleting.

Outside area #

Around the pages lies the outside area: free canvas to the left, right, above and below. You can place margin notes, images and shapes there, or draw. If you move objects further out, the canvas grows with them. Nexnor places task cards to the right of the page, level with their passage.

When you export, you decide what’s included: “Standard (pages)” outputs only the pages. Content outside them is neither exported nor printed, and anything that extends past a page edge is clipped there. “Full Workspace” creates a single large PDF page with all pages and everything beside them.

TipStart the export with “Share” in the top-right corner, see Export as PDF.
