Editing a task

In the task editor you set a task’s title, note, list, priority and due date. “More options” adds status, recurrence, tags and reminders.

Opening the editor #

A new task always starts in a document: select text or press and hold a spot, then choose “Create task” (see Tasks in documents). The editor is then called “New Task”, and the selected text is already in the title.

To edit an existing task, tap “Edit” in the task details or “Edit Task” on the task card in the document. The editor is then called “Edit Task”.

At the top are the title and the “Add a note” field. A new task is due in two hours, has the priority “Medium”, sits in “No List” and has no reminders yet.

NoteThe sheet cannot be swiped away. Close it with “Save” or Cancel (✕).

Linked to #

The “Linked to” section shows which spot the task belongs to: the document name, the page on the right (for example “Page 1”) or “Text source”, and the selected text below as a quote.

You don’t change the spot here but on the task card in the document with “Change anchor” – see Changing the spot. For existing tasks, the “Linked Notes” section follows with “Create or link note”.

NoteIf you create a task in an externally opened document, Nexnor creates a copy in Nexnor when you save; the original file remains unchanged. See External documents for more.

List and priority #

Under “Organize”, pick one of your lists or “No List” for “List”. “New List” turns the row into a “List Name” field: enter a name and add it with the checkmark, or cancel with ✕. If the name already exists, Nexnor selects that list.

Set “Priority” to “Low”, “Medium” or “High”.

NoteThe priority is currently only visible here in the editor; it changes neither sorting nor filters. How many lists of your own you can have without Pro is described under Nexnor Pro.

Setting the due date #

Under “Due”, the buttons “Today”, “Tomorrow” and “In a week” set the day with one tap; the time stays the same. The active button is filled. With “Date and time” you pick the exact day and time.

A main task always has a due date with a time – “no due date” can’t be chosen in the editor. A due date with only a day, or no due date at all, is available for subtasks.

NoteTasks from text documents that are linked to a checkbox start without a due date. If you save such a task in the editor, it stays without a due date as long as you don’t change the date.

More options: status, recurrence, tags #

Tap “More options” to expand the area. When collapsed, the row shows what is already set, such as “Tags: 1 · Reminders: 1”.

Under “Schedule” you set the “Status” to “Open”, “In Progress” or “Completed” and choose the “Recurrence” – see Recurrence. Below come “Tags” and “Reminders” (Reminders).

Tags are free keywords for the task: type in “New tag” and tap “Add” (or press Return). A tag the task already has is not added twice; ✕ removes it again. Task tags are not the same as the coloured tags of documents.

NoteThe status “In Progress” and tags are only visible in the editor. As long as subtasks are open, a task stays open when you save; if you choose “Completed” anyway, the note “Complete all subtasks first.” appears below it. Global search also finds tasks by their tags.

Saving or cancelling #

Tap “Save” at the top right. If the title is empty, “Enter a title for the task.” appears and the editor stays open.

If you have set reminders and have never allowed notifications, Nexnor asks “Be reminded about this task?” – “Allow Notifications” shows the iOS prompt, “Not Now” saves without permission. See Notifications for more.

Cancel (✕) discards all changes. For a new task, Nexnor also removes the spot it just set in the document.

TipA new task in the workspace appears as a card at the page margin after saving – see Task cards.
